The universal enlightenment ideals against post-modernist identity politics?

Are universal enlightenment ideals something that the majority of human beings can relate to? What if we took the lessons learned from identity politics and reframed them in universal Humanistic terms so that we could make Humanism more relevant to people from different socio-economic backgrounds, races, and sexes? Are we Humanists because of the HM3 or because of the way we grew up and our experiences in life?
